3 steps to perfectly cared for feet

To enjoy the barefoot season to the fullest and really shine in your open shoes, give your feet the attention and care they deserve with a regular care routine.

Step 1: Start your care with a relaxing foot bath.

In addition to the pleasant wellness factor, it optimally prepares your skin for further care. To do this, add about 5 liters of water and, if you like, 50 grams of sea salt to a bowl or tub. With its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, sea salt is the ideal additive for your foot bath and also helps with conditions such as itching and even neurodermatitis. To prevent your skin from becoming too soft, the foot bath should not exceed a maximum water temperature of 38 degrees Celsius and should last no longer than 15 minutes.

Step 2: Massage your feet with a scrub

This allows you to gently remove dead skin cells and rough patches. Pay particular attention to your heels and balls of your feet, as these are typically the areas where calluses and rough skin are more common. If you don't have a ready-made scrub at home, you can easily make one yourself: Simply mix one tablespoon of olive oil with two tablespoons of salt or sugar.

Step 3: Use foot cream and keep your skin supple

A rich foot cream provides your skin with moisture, essential vitamins, and fatty acids. Applying it daily makes your skin noticeably softer and helps reduce calluses and prevent dry, cracked skin.

Why do feet need care?

The reasons for good foot care, of course, go far beyond the aesthetics of your spring outfit. Hardly any other part of the body is exposed to as much constant stress as our feet. Neglected care can lead to dry and cracked skin (calluses) and even increase the risk of athlete's foot. A good foot care routine is like brushing your teeth daily for your feet—a simple habit that contributes to good health and makes your feet shine. With these tips, you can keep your feet healthy all year round:

clean and dry:

Wash your feet daily, for example, while showering, and remember to dry them thoroughly afterward, especially between the toes. Avoid leaving your feet in damp socks or shoes for too long to reduce the risk of fungal infections and foot odor.

healthy skin:

A healthy skin barrier is also important on the feet for a good skin feel and a strong defense against pathogens. Since, unlike the rest of our body, we don't have sebaceous glands on the soles of our feet to protect the skin from drying out, moisturizing care is especially essential here. By regularly applying foot cream, you can prevent dry skin and keep your skin supple and healthy.

Cutting nails correctly:

Be careful when trimming your nails. Cut them straight and not too short to prevent them from ingrown into the skin or becoming infected. Your toenails should still completely cover your toes after trimming, leaving a small nail edge.

The right footwear:

Well-fitting shoes are not only much more comfortable, they're also healthier for your feet. Make sure you have enough room in your shoes and choose breathable materials to avoid sweaty feet. Or go barefoot. This way, you not only feel the outdoors beneath your feet, but you also train your foot muscles and relieve pressure on your feet.

Remove calluses?

Calluses are not necessarily considered attractive, but they do serve an important function as protection against injury and as a barrier against bacteria. In general, it is not necessary to remove calluses. Instead of removing them, it is better to prevent the formation of excessive calluses by regularly applying cream and wearing comfortable shoes. However, removal can be a good idea if the skin becomes cracked due to dry skin or if there is a lot or thickness of callus and it is causing discomfort. And of course, it is okay if you simply prefer it without. The best way to remove the calluses is to gently rub a pumice stone over the affected areas after a foot bath. But be careful: a thin layer should remain so that it can continue to fulfil its function.
