Beautiful feet for spring: care tips

Schöne Füße für den Frühling: Tipps zur Pflege

Get your sandals out, it's spring!

The chic sandals to go with your spring outfit, the feeling of grass or sand under your bare feet - when the temperatures rise, it's time for beautiful feet! Are your feet ready for spring?

3 steps to perfectly cared for feet

To enjoy the barefoot season to the fullest and really shine in your open shoes, give your feet the attention and care they deserve with a regular care routine.

Step 1: Start your care with a relaxing foot bath.

In addition to the pleasant wellness factor, it prepares your skin optimally for further care. To do this, add about 5 liters of water and, if you like, 50 grams of sea salt to a bowl or tub. With its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect, sea salt is the ideal bath additive for your foot bath and also helps against complaints such as itching and even neurodermatitis. To prevent your skin from becoming too soft, the foot bath should not exceed a maximum water temperature of 38 degrees and should last no longer than 15 minutes.

Step 2: Massage your feet with a scrub

This way you can gently remove dead skin cells and rough patches. Pay particular attention to your heels and balls of your feet, as these are typically the areas where there are more calluses or corns. If you don't have a ready-made scrub at home, you can easily make one yourself: simply mix a tablespoon of olive oil with two tablespoons of salt or sugar.

Step 3: Use foot cream and keep your skin supple

A rich foot cream provides your skin with moisture, important vitamins and fatty acids. Applying it daily makes the skin noticeably smoother and helps you reduce calluses and prevent dry, cracked skin.

A real treat for your toes: Fast-absorbing solid foot cream with no perfume, no plastic and no chemicals.

Why do feet need care?

The reasons for good foot care naturally go far beyond the aesthetics of your spring outfit. Hardly any other part of the body is exposed to as much constant stress as our feet. If care is neglected, this can lead to dry and cracked (callused) skin and even increase the risk of athlete's foot. A good foot care routine is like brushing your teeth every day for your feet, a simple habit that contributes to health and makes your feet shine. With these tips, you can keep your feet healthy all year round:

  • clean and dry:

Wash your feet daily, for example when you shower, and remember to dry them thoroughly afterwards, especially between the toes. Do not leave your feet in damp socks or shoes for too long to reduce the risk of fungal infections and foot odor.
  • healthy skin:

A healthy skin barrier is also important on the feet for a good skin feel and a strong defense against pathogens. Since we don't have sebaceous glands on the soles of our feet, unlike the rest of our body, which protect the skin from drying out, moisturizing care is particularly essential here. By regularly applying a foot cream, you prevent dry skin and keep your skin supple and healthy.
  • How to cut nails correctly:

Be careful when cutting your nails. Cut your nails straight and not too short so that they don't grow into the skin or become infected. After cutting, your toenails should still completely cover your toe tips and have a small nail edge.
  • The right footwear:

Well-fitting shoes are not only much more comfortable, they are also healthier for your feet. Make sure you have enough space in your shoes and choose breathable materials to avoid sweaty feet. Or go barefoot. This way you not only feel nature beneath your feet, you also train your foot muscles and relieve the strain on your feet.
  • Remove calluses?

Calluses are not necessarily considered pretty, but they do serve an important function as protection against injuries and as a barrier against bacteria. In principle, it is not necessary to remove calluses. Better than removing them is to prevent the formation of excessive calluses by regularly applying cream and wearing comfortable shoes. However, removal can be a good idea if the skin becomes cracked due to dry skin or if there is a lot or thickness of callus and it is causing discomfort. And of course it is okay if you simply prefer it without. The best thing to do is to carefully rub the affected areas with a pumice stone after a foot bath to remove the calluses. But be careful: a thin layer should remain so that it can continue to fulfil its function.
